The Price of Civilization offers scholars, students, and policy makers convenient access to a wide variety of historical materials. To date, efforts have focused on the Department of the Treasury, with specific emphasis on the Division of Tax Research (forerunner to the Office of Tax Analysis). Planned additions include material from congressional committees, the White House, business groups, and labor organizations.

Overall, The Price of Civilization currently reproduces about 6500 pages of text. These documents were drawn from files at the National Archives in College Park, Maryland, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library in Hyde Park, New York, and the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library in Independence, Missouri.
